New & improved bus routes for Redbank & Springfield!
Ipswich has finally got some bus improvements. This is incredibly exciting, especially since this is the beginning of a 3 staged bus improvement to Ipswich that will be rolled out over the coming few years. This has been incredibly needed for a long time as the corridor from Springfield to Ripley is rapidly expanding. Notably, Deebing Heights (4000 residents in the 2021 census) has no bus routes at all. It’s unfortunate that residents will have to wait another year to get a bus - if all goes to plan.

The first stage of the bus routes roll out on 17 November 2025, and the translink journey planner has the routes in already. This is an amazing beginning for a better and more well connected public transportation in Ipswich. Additionally, I'm so happy that the 501 exists, and that residents don't have to wait for the postponed or delayed, Ipswich to Springfield Rail corridor to be built.

The routes!
- All routes have an exact rough hourly off-peak, frequency, and a half hourly peak.
- Augusta Parkway at any stop will have 3 bus routes serving each stop, meaning that, due to 2 buses being scheduled close to one another, the frequency of buses serving the corridor is now 30 minutes, and 15 minutes during peak periods.
- Also shout out to Jones Rd near Augusta Parkway bus stop which will have 5 unique bus routes stopping at it. I believe this is the only example outside of major shopping centres and train stations where a bus stop has more than a few services stopping at it. (In Ipswich)

Brief description of routes
New routes
- 501: Finally! Ipswich to Springfield is 40 minutes, normally driving this distance is 30 minutes, so this is actually a good route.
- 520: This fairly direct route through Redbank to the Ipswich line at Goodna, and it’s great to see, this bus route takes approximately half an hour.
- 522: This is a more direct route from Springfield Central station to Redbank, saving 10 minutes compared to the more convoluted 526 which will be about half an hour end to end.
- 523: This new bus route combines aspects of the current 524 and 526 connecting from Edens Crossing and Southern Redbank Plains to Springfield Central via Augustine Heights. As such, this route will take about an hour end to end.
Modified existing bus routes
- 524: Significantly simplified and starts from Redbank Plains Town Square Shopping Centre to Goodna via Bellbird Park High School. This route only takes under half an hour. Most of the former bus stops south of Redbank Plains Townsquare shopping centre are now moved to the 523 bus route.
- 525: This is no longer a one way loop through Collingwood Park. Additionally, it terminates at Goodna train station instead of Redbank, and starts at Redbank Plain Town Square Shopping Centre. However, the Inbound and Outbound bus stops are significantly varied due to the route using the same bus stops from the one way loop service for a bi-directional bus service. If you use this bus route, please look at the link to the journey planner linked below.
- 526: Although the timetable has been modified slightly, this bus route has been changed the least with only the Augustine Heights portion modified. The bus will now be routed through Brookwater rather than the weird diversion into Augustine Heights.
